Coral reef and mangrove restoration projects are underway to enhance natural resilience. We will work with Blue Action Lab members, local partners, and experts to restore marine ecosystems. The massive impact of Hurricane Dorian ravaged much of the mangroves across Grand Bahama and degraded swaths of these critical habitats.
The Blue Economic Planning Program will assess Blue Carbon Market potential in Grand Bahamas and conduct model planning for Marine Protected Areas. This will develop opportunities in diverted waste streams, mangrove conservation, and seagrass meadows protection. To this end, Blue Action Lab staff recently completed a socio-economic impact analysis of its business plan based on data provided by the initial cohort of 6 Action Lab member companies working in carbon abatement and ecosystem restoration.
Blue Action Lab is working with Coral Vita, the Bahamas National Trust, and other local and international stakeholders to expand and enhance Marine Protected Areas.
The $400M regenerative agriculture park will leverage state-of-the-art hydroponic and aquaponic technology. The Project is carbon neutral, will provide fresh produce for The Bahamas and an element of food security.
The Blue Action Lab is working with strategic partners to develop models for sustainable north shore storm remediation that can be implemented in Grand Bahama and other low lying coastal communities to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The Action Lab facilitates real-world implementation by acting as a proving ground for cutting- edge climate adaptation technologies and models in the following core focus areas:
